This impresses me. Stick at it for a while. (I saw them back in ’98 and they rocked my world.)

I really should read more of the Midnight Notes crowd. Here’s

Respect Your Enemies — The First Rule of Peace: An Essay Addressed to the U. S. Anti-war Movement.

Still not sure about Grant Morrison‘s New X-Men, even though my blog’s tagline is taken from Morrison’s first story arc. Of course, in most ways, it rocks — I guess much of Morrison’s stuff is What I’d Want Comics to Be. But I have the niggling feeling that What I’d Want isn’t necessarily a Good Thing. His The Filth is a case in point.

While slouching around the District Court (waiting for arrested comrades to come out of their hearings) during the WTO protests, Dave Antagonism and I took advantage of the lull to ruminate on Morrison. “I think it’s all bluff,” says Dave. “He’s read all this esoteric shit, but I don’t think he really undersands it.” A less interesting but more basic question is what the politics are actually about; there’s a thread on Barbelith (which, incidentally, I’ve just noticed also features an article on Woomera by Aizura) about whether the X-Men’s Quentin Quire character is an anti-radical dig by Morrison. I’m unsure. All I know is that dangerously, I Want To Look Like Quentin Quire (which will no doubt raise the ire of those who think I’ve been mindlessly kicking against the pricks of late with my, um, hairstyles): the stripy vest, the hair, the whip, the boots — everything.
