forever

Excellent: someone defends Batman Forever on k-punk. Hey, I like Batman Begins as much as the next person, but I’m sick of people boosting it by trashing both of Joel Schumacher’s Batman films when it’s patently clear (to me at least) that Batman Forever is one of the strongest of the series. Um, it was fun. It was George Clooney playing Your Uncle Batman in Batman and Robin that sank the series, whereas Val Kilmer was actually on the way to saving it; I remember everyone in the cinema squealing with glee at his, uh, chest. BF had a pretty fun soundtrack, too, if I remember correctly. (Okay, I have a weakness for Joel Schumacher — I even went to see Phantom of the Opera.)

I went to see Phantom of the Opera too. I remember feeling an excited tightness in my chest as the cheesy opening chords of the theme rang out across the cinema.
I see similarities between Batman and the Phantom but I feel that they can only be adequately explained with a third beer in my hand.

Guy lives in cave under huge gothic structure. Wears mask. Swears vengeance. Strangely attractive. Look ma, no beer! :) Interestingly, Schumacher’s version of Phantom added an origin story, which is very superhero!

Also, I couldn’t help noting the similarity in Batman Begins where he brings the semi-conscious girl back to his lair and lies her out on a bier, staring at her intensely with all the lust in his black heart.
Damn you for making me do this with no beer!
